Rivastigmine is an effective reversible acetyl cholinesterase inhibitor used for the treatment of mild to moderate dementia. It was approved by US Food and drug administration for Alzheimer’s disease dementia. In this review, the advances of Alzheimer’s disease dementia and pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamic properties, efficacy and tolerability profile new clinical approaches, adverse events and serious adverse events, drug interaction and pharmacoeconomics of rivastigmine were concluded and summarised. In the clinical trials conducted on rivastigmine, stated that it is effective against cognitive functions, global function such as memory, language, attention and problem solving ability and behaviour in patient with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease dementia for upto 52 weeks.
